Empathize

First, I thought about my own experiences with bank accounts and ATMs. I had a savings account from about 10 to 13 years old. My dad would take my brother and I to the bank, I’d hand the bank people my money and small savings booklet through the glass window, they’d do some bank magic, and then I’d have my booklet back with my total savings. As a kid, it gave me great satisfaction and pride to know that I was saving up my own money!

Around 14 to 16 years old, my dad helped me close the savings account and get a debit card instead, which meant I could start using machines. Since then, I’ve identified ATMs as machines that I could use to withdraw/deposit cash or deposit checks, usually conveniently located near the closest bank or grocery store. The process is easy to follow, and I haven’t had any problems with it so far.

Overall, I’d like for to have the same smooth experience with ATMs, along with the educational and enjoyable aspects that are also important to their first experiences of handling money.
