Introducing as new content to post on
Finally we make our voices heard with our real voices, expressing our feelings and our emotions at their best, share sounds or post the whisper of our last poem, yes 😀

It would be great for me because I have had experience as a voice-actor in the past and I know how important the voice is for people, because it’s the first form of communication to which we are exposed before we are born, apart from the physical contact with our mother, we listen to the sounds and communicate with the voice when we are born. Finally Voice clips!

Approach to the new content

We are used to sending audio messages on chat apps and my first question was just about the usefulness of this type of content also in the Facebook’s feed. Usually we scroll the newsfeed and choose to somehow take advantage of visual content such as images, videos, texts (Now proposed as images);
It is interesting to understand how words are becoming images, for the sense of speed that we are now used to with the web.

Different problems arise when you have a content of this type, the voice is in fact an invisible content. My intentions was to make voice clips as contents to watch, because otherwise:

What do users watch when they listen Voice clips?

So I decided to add the automatic subtitles (yes… overtitles) that have the graphic nature of visual-textual posts or other elements that we will see later.
The message translated into two languages, visual and auditory, facilitates the use of the content in different circumstances and based on the person who has to receive it, I think therefore to deaf people, this will be useful for them too.

I had in mind a simple design, which was consistent with the brand, which therefore had the same characteristics of other Facebook content, but that was also versatile.

Design

I considered the variety of Facebook’s users who are used to certain spontaneous actions, and also to the devices that they use then Voice clips had to be a content easy to use anywhere and for anyone.
I decided so that you could heard the post by simply clicking/tap on the button Play or on the visual area as in these gif and select in player obviusly the minute that you prefer, easily!
You can already see the text of the first sentence pronounced, to stimulate curiosity.

Voice clip content in steps

To understand well how this content should be I’m going to show in steps this content:

Step 1
Content is disabled. The first part is dedicated to visual content, in this case reflects the words spoken in the audio, like subtitles.

Step 1 — Before activating the audio

Step 2
Content is abilited. Play button disappear and appear a pause button that is in fact a signal (Double possibility of action, tap/click on this pause button or these actions directly on the visual-first area) placed in the upper part to facilitate the choice of the part of track to want to hear, so the whole area is clickable, since there is no knob in the player.

Step 2 — After play inaudible words remain to give sense to the sentence.

Step 3
Like any other content you can share it or give a like or other reactions. I also wanted to show the reactions received minute by minute. Total received reactions in bottom and also the number of times the Voice clip was heard.

Step 4
The equalizer icon resumes the progress of the sound, but is also a button to enable/disable the sound if we are in the bus.

Step 4 — Audio disabled

Usability

The content looks quite wide compared to other contents on Facebook because I wanted it to be noticed in the feed. Diversifying it from the other players present in other contents, such as the videos of which recalls the blue color.
The small size of the Voice clips tend to make the vocal notes seem short, so the initial sensation of fast fruition, but at the same time wide in height to facilitate the choice of the part of the track to want to hear.

The green area is the clickable part of the player, so it is easy to drag/click/tap the highlight blue part to choose the moment to listen to.

Tests and project ideas

It is always better to draw your ideas directly on paper or on a blackboard (Mine is white but it’s the same…) and write everything on so as to realize the opportunities and problems that may arise with certain shapes.
In this case, drawing and then making quick-very simple prototypes, I understood, using them, that some ideas were to be discarded for the new Voice clips.

Always carry with you paper and a pen, the best ideas come at night or while traveling, drawing is the way to externalize your best ideas

You can convince your colleagues in the test or even show it to customers, but there is only one test that at least in my experience has never failed.
So the test I prefer is the great “Mother Test” 😀

Mother test: If my mother is able to use it naturally then it’s ok, maybe!

These are some ideas that I have discarded and that were fundamental to get to the chosen of final (Never really final) design.

Opportunities for use

What I love about my work is, besides solving problems, to create new opportunities for users stimulating also their creativity.
I also like to think about new communication ways, but also the possibility for brands to get better known and get closer to their customers with new means and new cool contents.

I love creating tools that stimulate the creativity of users

Here’s how Voice clips could be used on Facebook by users or by brands with sponsored posts.
